Just Keep Planting

Just Keep Planting

It’s no surprise that the world has been turned upside down.  I wrote a post on my ‘regular’ blog and haven’t even posted it yet because I’m still processing it all.

*Update:  I posted it but it’s kinda fragmented because I gave up. You can view it here.

March has come and March has gone.  In the last month, both the world and my garden have changed dramatically.

Preston and I pulled up a few potato plants and then I moved other ones from a bed that I planted cukes in and transplanted them in the Garden of Eden in the hopes that they’ll take off over there.

As well as transplanting potatoes, a LOT of different bean seeds and cucumbers have fencing to climb and the gourds are ready to cling to the pallets and head heavenward.

March was such a long month.  Quarantined, starting ‘school at home’ with the grands and learning to adjust to the NEW normal.

I can’t lie.  It’s been very challenging.

But today, after over three weeks of all of it, I woke early and made a decision:

I am going to live my life.  I will continue to do what makes my heart sing, serve my family and invest in eternal things.

Here’s what I’ve learned over the last month:

~squirrels are relentless.  If I had a working Beebee gun or a pellet gun, I’d shoot them!

~investing in the future happens today.  We plant today for the harvest we want down the road. It’s not that I didn’t know that, but as I’ve consistently planted, the excitement that I’ll continue to harvest all spring long just delights me.

~my grands want to see the fruit of their labor NOW!  Preston and I planted squash last week one day and the next day he was ready to see the squash.  That’s a great lesson in patience.

~one can plant garlic from the store that’s started to grow in its container!

~having a compost bin closer to the house makes it much easier to remember to get it out there!

~being a ‘farmer’ is a lot of work.  But, in the long run, it’s worth it.

Next time I can sit here for more than five minutes, I’m going to share a story of what happened at the end of March…

(This is the result of planting in March.)

(The pomegranate tree bloomed close to the day of mom’s anniversary into Heaven~)

(The squirrels have since destroyed this can…!#%$Q@#$%RTJR^@%^!)

My first poppy.  Can’t wait till it blooms!

Sunflowers bring much joy~

 These should bloom soon, too!

These were so yummy.  Almost as sweet as candy!

…and then April came!

Till next time,

Just keep planting good stuff…
