I Found My Vision…again!

I Found My Vision…again!

Let me say, it’s been a very long time and I am sad, yet grateful to be back.

We left the city last August and from then until now, my vision severely took a huge hit.  There was so very many things that HAD to be done just to live in a clean home, the outside work is tremendous and the only way I can see clearly with any of it is to think this one way:

“How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.”

Unfortunately,  I never did publish that post! I wrote the above paragraphs over a year ago.

Sigh…yep.  Life gets busy when you make plans…

After two years, though, I can honestly say things are beginning to look different around here.

We have had some major things change in our life, but that’s for another post.

As far as the house and ‘eating an elephant one bite at a time’, we have made major progress, in my opinion.  Jef put up a railing around the front/back porch with Caleb’s help, (keeps the chickens from poopin’ on the porch), I scraped up most of the tiles on the floor in a majority of the house, we have carpeted both bedrooms, and Jef laid flooring in the small bathroom. There are other things but not as dramatic.

This summer has been a record-breaking hot one and the live oak trees here have suffered.  We’ve had two huge limbs break off (we won’t lack wood for the fireplace this winter!).  We won’t begin to clean up that mess until it gets cooler!

And then this:  I lost part of my greenhouse to another tree that landed on it about two weeks ago.  Although the tree crushed the first section of it, I still have a 10’x15′ greenhouse!

This is just one tree.  There are three more limbs down on the other side of the house. NO shortage of work to be done around here.

As you can see, there has been a lot of progress in building beds, putting up shade cloth and trellises.  It’s just been so hot!  All that’s growing now is okra, roses, Polar Bear zinnias, and about four pepper plants that may take off once it gets cooler.  I had tomatoes, cukes and other things. Finding time to fit it all in and getting it all done before it begins to cook me is the tricky part!

It’s good to be back, celebrating all we’ve done here as well as recording another aspect of my life: my dream to live on a farm.

Just some shots of various things around here and in my area…
